Cosmic
Spores and Peelings
In
my new body of work I continue to experiment with unexpected materials
making highly individual and original 3D sculptural forms. My
new work includes “Cosmic Spores” and “Peelings”.
These pieces involve swirling rhythms and continuous circular
movement and, as always, multiples. These dynamic sculptural textiles
are made of varying materials, which are embellished with stitch.
In the process the sculptural form develops in the direction dictated
by both the material and the technique of stitching, I only intervene
to balance the piece rather than control it. Usually working in
monochrome and sometimes using colour, I make connections and
achieve a harmonious whole.

Abacus
The rhythm series has developed a method of displaying
soft, rounded textile forms in rigid perspex boxes. The natural
forms created, echo handwriting or landscape and are suspended
on perspex rods. Despite appearing random these are easily manipulated,
reformed and shifted. This discord is echoed through the use of
boxes to 'catch' the shapes.

Translucency
Building on the success of the innovative
“Rhythm” series by using multiples of one technique
and transforming it into an organic sculptural form, Mary-Anne
has taken the process a stage further and Translucency 1, 2 &
3 have evolved. Sometimes incorporating colour and always embodying
movement and particularly light, she has altered, developed and
extended these fluid transparent forms until they appear to have
come to life and emerge as sculptural waves of pure light.

Cluster
In these exciting new pieces from the “Abacus”
series “Cluster 1 & 2” have evolved. They have
emerged and reassembled themselves as free flowing forms constructed
around interconnecting rods.
Mary-Anne investigates the idea of opposites and brings together
the man-made and organic, contained and uncontrolled, purity and
colour, measured and accidental. However, the tension this creates
does not jar but instead forms a gentle harmony.
